About

The Notorious Arena League (NAL) is an arena based league where the best teams come to compete. Our goal is to provide a platform where members of the competitive community in Sea of Thieves can engage in highly competitive and entertaining matches. We strongly stand by the values of respect and sportsmanship. We are working hard to provide something truly special that the whole community can be proud of. In addition, we want players to use this platform to further increase their influence and notoriety in their own social media, twitch, and have a chance to grow their team.

Season Format

Season 4 of the NAL will have five stages.

  1. Pre-season Qualifier
  2. Brawl
  3. League Play
  4. Round of Fate
  5. Grand Finals

Point System

1. Pre-season Qualifier

If more than 10 teams are approved to play in the league, there will be a qualifier to narrow it down to 10 teams. More details on this qualifier can be found on our Discord.

2. Brawl

The purpose of the brawl is to qualify for your division. There will be two divisions, namely Pro and Semi-Pro. The Brawl procedure is almost identical to the qualifiers except for a few differences; Matches are played in lobbies of 5, and it takes place over 2 NAL Days. Each team will play 8 games during the Brawl stage. The five teams with the highest points will go into the Pro-Division and the rest will go into the Semi-Pro Division.

randomization structure: The idea is structured randomization so we don't see the same teams in the same lobbies. Lobbies during qualifiers and Brawl are generated using the NAL Wheel of Fate.

3. League Play

Teams play in their respective divisions earning points based on placement at the end of each game. The point system is the same. Both divisions run independently of each other for 4 NAL days (each of these days is specified in the calendar). Each team will play 4 games each session. At the end of league play, the top 3 teams from the Pro-Division will qualify for the Grand Finals. The remaining two spots are determined by the Round of Fate. Both Divisions are streamed starting with the Semi-Pro and ending with the Pro Division.

4. Round of Fate

The bottom 2 teams from the Pro-Division will face the top 3 teams from the Semi-Pro Division. These teams will play 7 games. The top 2 teams will enter the Grand finals and earn the title of "Pro". Any ties are settled via Showdowns. The teams who get knocked out of the round of fate will be considered Semi-Pro.

5. Grand Finals

The five pro teams will compete to earn the title of being the best team in Sea of Thieves. They will also earn a grand cash prize based on community support, and every member of the winning team will also earn the Obsidian Capstan. These 5 teams will play 7 matches. The team with the most points at the end of the night, wins! As usual, ties are settled via Showdowns.

Tie-Breaker: Showdown

Whenever a tie-breaker is needed we go to the Showdown to decide the winner. A Showdown is a best of 5 series of 1 vs 1's. Each pirate gets to participate only once unless we go to round 5 where teams may choose their best player to go twice. Duels take place on Old Salts Atoll. Two ships will be anchored on opposite sides of the island. The duel rules are as follows:
